Kram Condemns Russian Invasion of Ukraine

Regina-Wascana MP Michael Kram today condemned the Russian invasion of Ukraine and called for all-party support for enhanced measures against the Russian Federation, as well as a boycott of Russian goods.

“To some in Canada, this may seem the troubles of a far-off land, but here in Saskatchewan perhaps more than anywhere else in Canada we understand that what affects Ukraine affects us all. This is, after all, the provinces that memorializes the sacrifices of the Ukrainian victims of Stalin’s Holodomor. Our local Ukrainian population, that has done so much to build this province, feel a direct connection to the events going on in their ancestral homeland. Beyond that, we are all endangered by the threat this poses to international peace and stability,” Kram said.

Kram called on all his colleagues of all political stripes to get behind enhanced measures to support the Ukrainian people.

“This should not be a partisan issue. I acknowledge that the Liberal government has taken some steps to assist Ukraine, but there is more that we can and must do. Vladimir Putin is the common enemy of all democratic people so Canadians must join together as one to work with our allies to preserve Ukraine’s fragile democracy.”

Kram’s suggestions for enhanced efforts include supplying arms and troops to the Ukrainian government and expanding the use of the Magnitsky Act and other sanctions to target any and all Russian citizens and businesses with possible connections to the invasion. Michael also called on the Liberal government to clear the way for Ukrainian refugees as well as increase humanitarian aid to the region.
